Psychotherapy is a type of mental health treatment that involves talking with a trained and licensed therapist (Myself) to help individuals address and overcome a range of emotional, psychological, and behavioural issues. Through collaborative and confidential process, the therapist works with the client to explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences, identify patterns and beliefs that may be contributing to their difficulties, and develop strategies and coping skills to manage and resolve their challenges. My Plymouth psychotherapy can be used to treat a wide range of conditions, including anxiety, depression, relationship problems, trauma, addiction, and more, and can be tailored to meet the unique needs and goals of each individual.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a evidence-based, goal-orientated form of psychotherapy that focuses on the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. CBT is a collaborative approach in which the therapist and client work together to identify and change unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaving that may contribute to emotional distress or mental health challenges. Through structured sessions, clients like yourself learn to recognise and challenge negative or distorted thought patterns, and develop more adaptive coping strategies and behaviours. CBT is a time-limited, solution-focused therapy that is often used to treat a wide range of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, phobias, addiction, and other behavioural or emotional difficulties. CBT aims to empower clients with practical tools and strategies to effectively manage their thoughts, emotions, and behaviours in order to achieve positive changes in their lives. It is highly effective and a widely used approach in the field of psychotherapy.

Sand Play Therapy

Sand play therapy is a form of expressive therapy that uses a sandbox, miniature figures, and other objects to create a three-dimensional representation of the client’s inner world. During a sand play therapy session, a trained therapist like myself provides a safe and supportive space for the client to play and explore with the sand and the figures, allowing them to express and process, emotions, and experiences in a nonverbal way. Sand play therapy can be particularly beneficial for individuals who may struggle to express themselves verbally, such as children, trauma survivors, and individuals with developmental or cognitive disabilities. By engaging in creative play and working with symbolic imagery, sand play therapy can help individuals gain insight into their own psyche, work through conflicts, and develop a greater sense of self-awareness and self-esteem.

Solution Focused Therapy

Solution Focused Therapy (SFT) is a brief, strengths-based therapeutic approach that focuses on identifying and building upon a client’s existing strengths and resources to create positive change. Rather than dwelling on past problems or analysing their causes, SFT is future-focused and goal-directed. I work collaboratively with clients to help them clarify their goals and identify small, manageable steps toward achieving those goals. SFT encourages clients to focus on their desired outcome and solutions, rather than getting stuck in the problem itself. I guide the client in exploring their strengths, skills, and past successes, and help them develop strategies to overcome challenges and achieve their desired changes. SFT is typically a brief and time-limited therapy, often spanning just a few sessions, making it a practical and effective approach for many individuals seeking to overcome challenges and overcome their goals.

Psychotherapy, on the other hand, is often more long-term and focuses on exploring deeper, underlying issues and patterns that may be causing problems in a person’s life. Psychotherapy is often used to treat more severe or complex mental health conditions, such as anxiety disorders or personality disorders. However, the distinction between counselling and psychotherapy can vary depending on the therapist, the clients needs, and the treatment approach used.

The duration of therapy can vary depending on a range of factors, such as the nature and severity of the issue being addressed, the clients goals and needs, the therapeutic approach used, and the progress made. Typically, therapy can last anywhere from a few weeks to several months, but some individuals may benefit from ongoing therapy for longer periods of time. The therapist and the client will work together to assess progress and determine the appropriate length of therapy to achieve desired outcomes.

Yes of course! Online counselling usually takes place via videoconferencing platforms or messaging services, while telephone counselling involve talking to a therapist over the phone. Both forms of therapy are convenient and accessible, and can be beneficial for individuals who live in remote areas, have mobility or transportation issues, or prefer the privacy and anonymity of remote sessions. However, it’s important to note that online and telephone counselling may mot be suitable for everyone, as they may lack some of the personal interaction and non-verbal cues that are present in face-to-face sessions. It’s important that we discuss the options and determine the best approach that suits you best.

Counselling can be an effective way to address personal issues and promote mental health and well-being, but there may be times when it is beneficial to stop or pause therapy. Some reasons for ending counselling may include:

  1. Achieving the desired goals: If the individual has achieved the goals they set out to accomplish in therapy, they may feel ready to end therapy.
  2. Feeling better and more self-sufficient: If the individual feels that they have made significant progress and are better able to manage their emotions and behaviours, they may decide to end therapy.
  3. Financial or logistical constraints: If the individual can no longer afford therapy or cannot continue due to logistical reasons, such as a move or a change in schedule, they may need to end therapy.
  4. Personal preference: if the individual no longer feels that therapy is helpful or enjoyable, or would prefer to explore other avenues for self-improvement, they may choose to stop therapy.

It’s important to note that the decision to end therapy should always be made in collaboration with myself, who can provide guidance and support during the transition process.

Individual:

Counselling, psychotherapy, and hypnotherapy £50 per session.

Supervision £60 per hour.

Business Groups:

Supervision £180 per 2 hour session minimum + £10 per person (Maximum 5 people per group).

Consultation & Supervision for individuals £95 per hour.
